Sampans and a few junks at Shanghai, China.
Sampans and a few small junks at Shanghai, China. Residential sampans are in the foreground and various domestic activities are taking place on board some of them. The sampans are propelled by a long bladed oar used as a scull over the stern and called a yuloh. Small single or 2-masted junks are in the background, identifiable by their slightly raised sterns and external rudders.
