The Bund at Shanghai, China. The photographer is looking north along the Bund and in the foreground is the Goddess of Peace War Memorial for triumph in the Great War. It was unveiled 6 February 1924and destroyed by the Japanese after 1941. The domed building on the left is the Hong Kong & shanghai Bank completed in 1923 and next to it is the Custom House completed in 1927. The building with the two small turrets on top is the Palace Hotel and next to it is the tall spired Sassoon House completed in 1929. Next to Sassoon house and in the very early stages of its construction is the China Bank Headquarters which commenced in October 1936 and was topped out late in 1937. The very large building on the right of centre is the Broadway Mansions Hotel completed in 1934.
