A coastal scene at La Spezia, Italy, probably in the region of Marola on the west side of the Golfo della Spezia. The photographer is on board an unidentified cruise ship anchored offshore. Old fortifications and a concrete water tower are on the left and four very tall lattice steel masts are to the right of centre. On the extreme right and partially hidden by a building and a high wall is the Italian Navy cadet training ship Francesco Ferruccio (1902), probably laid up and awaiting disposal. Hills are in the background.
