On board the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) at Spitsbergen, Norway, looking at the Midnight Sun.
On board the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) at Spitsbergen, Norway, looking towards the Midnight Sun. The photographer is at the rear of the bridge to port of the centre line looking aft and to starboard showing the top of the wireless office and the starboard boat deck in the foreground. The ship is probably at anchor in Isfjorden. A cargo ship, seen from off her port beam, is at anchor in ballast and she appears to have an ice-breaking bow. She is single funneled, about 2000 tons, has four holds, twin derricks on her short forecastle and short poop and goalpost masts immediately before and abaft her central superstructure. Snow covered land is in the background. Negatives numbers P95243, P95249 and P95255 are in the same location. A vertical format negative.
