A general view of a settlement on the coast at Spitsbergen, Norway.
A general view of a settlement on the coast at Spitsbergen, Norway. The photographer is on a cruise of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) and is looking towards a spit of land on which there are a number of wooden buildings, mainly single storey but there is at least one 2-storey building, and two tall lattice steel masts, presumably for wireless signal transmission and receipt. Snow covered mountains and low cloud are in the background.
