A weather station on the coast at Spitsbergen, Norway. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) and a large number of tourists are walking in the field in the foreground. Single and 2-storey wooden buildings are near the shore on the left and two Stevenson Screens (weather monitoring instrument shelters) are just inland of them. Snow covered mountains and low cloud are across the sea inlet in the background.
