The main square and Vagen harbour at Stavanger, Norway.

The main square and Vagen harbour at Stavanger, Norway. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) and is looking north-by-west from the Kongsgata in front of the cathedral showing the statue of Alexander Kielland (1849-1906), the Norwegian novelist, short story writer, playwright, essayist, businessman, and politician. A passenger/cargo steamship, possibly owned by Hardanger Sunnhordlandske Dampskipsselskap, is by a rail mounted crane on the Skagenkaien. The buildings on the right include the Kolonial Indremissions Hotellet and the Svane Apoteket.
