The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) and is looking south-east from the Strandkaien showing steam and motor fishing vessels alongside the quays. Some of the vessels are identifiable by name or port registration including the motor vessels R165S, Stjernen and Laila. The buildings in the background on Skagenkaien include the premises of Kloster & Eriksen, Apotek, Kjop Hauge's Konfeksjon and Torvets Kolonialforretning Indremissions Hotellet.
