The main square and Vagen harbour at Stavanger, Norway.
The main square and Vagen harbour at Stavanger, Norway. The photographer is on a shore excursion and is looking north-west from the Kongsgata in front of the cathedral showing the statue of Alexander Kielland (1849-1906), the Norwegian novelist, short story writer, playwright, essayist, businessman, and politician. A passenger/cargo steamship, possibly owned by Hardanger Sunnhordlandske Dampskipsselskap, is on the Skagenkaien on the extreme right. A few market stalls are set up in the square and a line of horse-drawn 2-wheeled carts is in the foreground. The buildings on the left are facing the Strandkaien and include the Matsaloets Kafe.
