The photographer is on a shore excursion from a cruise ship looking south-west over the rooftops of the buildings on Skagenkaien showing a coastal passenger/cargo steamship under the rail mounted crane on the Skagenkaien. The ship has a black funnel with a light band on which is a circle with the overprinted letters S and H and is owned by Hardanger Sunnhordlandske Dampskipsselskap,. The buildings fronting the Strandkaien include the Matsaloets Kafe.
