The main square and the Strandkaien on the west side of Vagen harbour at Stavanger, Norway.
The main square and the Strandkaien on the west side of Vagen harbour at Stavanger, Norway. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) looking north-by-west from in front of the cathedral showing the statue of Alexander Kielland (1849-1906), the Norwegian novelist, short story writer, playwright, essayist, businessman, and politician. A coastal passenger/cargo ship of Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskab is alongside the Skagenkaien on the right. The general cargo steamship Sollund (1908) seen from fine off her starboard bow, is alongside the south end of the Strandkaien, possibly on charter to Det Bergenske Dampskibsselkab as she is wearing their funnel colours. Further along the Strandkaien and seen from off her port bow is the Viceroy of India (1929). Buildings fronting the Strandkaien include the Matsaloets Kafe and the White Bear.
