Port bow view of the brig Astrid (1918) and the German gaff schooner Johann Smidt (1974) moored on the River Tyne during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993
A port bow view taken from the quayside, of the brig Astrid (1918) and the German gaff schooner Johann Smidt (1974) moored on the River Tyne during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. Astrid's name is present on the bow in black lettering. Moored just in front of the Astrid is a small grey inflatable dinghy. On Astrid's starboard side is Johann Smidt. The name is present on the bow in black lettering. The sails on all the masts are furled and a orange inflatable dinghy is on the hatch cover amidships. Moored on the starboard side of Johann Smidt are two more sailing vessels, the closest of which is from the St Vincent and Grenadines. Both of their names are obscured, however, making identification difficult. The Baltic Flour Mill, the Royal Naval Reserve Shore Establishment HMS Calliopoe and the Tyne Bridge can be seen in the background.
