A sketch of an empty horizon from the 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis'. Everett has concentrated on the effects of sea and sky. The viewpoint is low down so that the wave on the left appears to be on eye level with the viewer and the trough in the wave appears diagonally on the right. The movement of the wave has been achieved by short diagonal brush strokes of different colour. The clouds are formed from a series of blocks of colour spread across the sky. A lighter mass of cream-coloured paint indicates the effects of the sun's rays reflected on the surface of the wave in the foreground. Everett sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932. The painting is inscribed 'PMH' verso.
