A very distant view of the USSR/Ukranian sail training ship Tovarysh (1932), a ketch, a spritsail barge and various small craft at the mouth of the River Tyne during the Tall Ships Race in 1993. The Tovarysh is visible on the left hand side of the image in the distance, with her sails furled. The ketch-rigged topsail barge can be seen in the middle of the image under sail. in the distance off the starboard quarter of the barge are is a small grey motor vessel underway and a spritsail barge with its sails furled. A large variety of small craft, some of which have light blue sails (possibly Enterprise dinghies) are sailing in the river mouth of the Tyne and around the larger vessels. In the forground is a sloped hill with a large number of people sitting. In the bottom left corner of the image is a woman with a carmera on a tripod. The South Shields Pier can be seen in the background.
