The photographer is looking east-south-east from the Sydney Harbour Bridge showing the Royal Navy heavy cruiser Dorsetshire (1929) alongside No. 2 wharf at Circular Quay in the right foreground. The two Australian Navy sloops Yarra (1935) and Swan (1936) are at moorings in Farm Cove and the destroyer leader Stuart (1918) with two V & W class destroyers are alongside Garden Island. Both of the Australian heavy cruisers, the Australia (1927) and the Canberra (1927), are in port, one is at anchor in Farm Cove and the other is under the sheerlegs alongside Garden Island.
