A view of the the USSR/Ukranian sail training barque Tovarysh (1932) motoring out of Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993
A port broadside view of the USSR/Ukranian sail training barque Tovarysh (1932) motoring out of Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. All of the barque's sails are furled and a Ukrainian flag can be seen flying from a rope attached to the mizzen mast. A small fishing vessel (?) with yellow superstructure and a black painted hull can be seen just off the bow. A variety of small craft are moored beyond the bow of Tovarysh on the left hand side of the image. A large group of people can be seen standing on South Shields Pier watching the sailing vessels go by. The wall of the Tynemouth Pier and a partial view of the back of a man's head can be seen in the foreground.
