A distant view of the Porto Grande and Ortigia at Syracuse, Sicily

A distant view of the Porto Grande and Ortigia, Syracuse, Sicily. The photographer is looking south-east-by-east from the Villagio Miano showing cultivated fields in the foreground with a gathering of motor cars and horse drawn cabs in the centre. A railway marshalling yard is in the middle distance and two trawlers, some sailing vessels and three 2-funnelled passenger ships are at anchor in the Porto Grande. The passenger ship just to the right of centre may be the Swedish Gripsholm (1925) and the ship on the right is possibly the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company's Viceroy of India (1929). Ortigia and the Castello Maniace are in the left distance.
