A starboard bow view of the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) at anchor in Sognefjord off Balholm, Norway. Her port anchor is deployed and she has an accommodation ladder rigged to her main deck aft with two boats alongside it. A large number of crew and passengers are gathered at the rails on the forecastle and the front of the superstructure. In the foreground a manual lifeboat manned by passengers under the supervision of two crew members is approaching the ship under oars at the end of a race. Competitive rowing regattas were commonplace in cruise ships at boating ports and other sheltered moorings. Negatives numbers P84445 to P84462 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
