Royal Navy destroyers berthed at Trieste, Italy. The four ships of the Royal Navy's 3rd Destroyer Flotilla of the Mediterranean Fleet are on their annual summer cruise and are berthed stern-on to the quay. They are all seen from off the port side, well abaft the beam and the photographer is looking down from the roof of a building on the Riva del Mandracchio adjacent to the quay. The nearest ship is the Impulsive (1937) Pendant D11 and next to her are the Icarus (1936) D03, Isis (1936) D87 and the divisional leader Intrepid (1936) D10. They all have a complete set of awnings rigged and their foreparts are out of the picture. Next to the Intrepid is the Italian Navy torpedo boat Lupo (1937), also with awnings rigged. Merchant ships are alongside wharves in the north commercial docks.
