The Campanile di San Marco, the Doge's Palace and the entrance to the Grand Canal at Venice, Italy. The Campanile is the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica located in the Piazza San Marco and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. The photographer is looking aft and to port from the port side of the games deck on board the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) which is moored in the San Marco Basin. Men in a local boat are working on one of the ship's mooring lines at a buoy in the harbour. Four passengers are standing by the ship's rail and two are sitting in deck chairs. Lifeboat number 18 is under her davits on the left.
