The Grand Canal and the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute at Venice, Italy. The photographer is looking west from on board the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) which is moored in the San Marco Basin. On the right, and seen from well ahead of her starboard beam, is the coastal passenger ship Lazzaro Mocenigo (1928) which is moored fore and aft to buoys. On the left and seen from fine off her starboard bow is the Italian Navy torpedo boat Lince (1938) which was commissioned 1 April 1938. She has the letters LC on her hull and has a complete set of awnings rigged.
