The asylum hulk Scilla (1882) moored at Venice, Italy

A starboard side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the asylum hulk Scilla (1882) at moorings at Venice, Italy. She was built for the Italian Navy as a steel corvette named Amerigo Vespucci, completed in 1884 and was converted to a training ship with much reduced armament in 1893. She was laid up at Venice as an asylum ship in 1927 and was stricken from the navy list in January 1928. Her funnel, fore topmast and sails have been removed. Washing is hanging up to dry on deck.
