Seascape from the 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis'
A sketch towards an empty horizon from the deck of the 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis'. Everett has used form and colour to achieve his desired effect. He has emphasized the rhythmic movement of the waves with a series of diagonal lines across the picture space. The peaks and troughs are implied by short diagonal brush strokes of blue colour. The sun is shown on the horizon as a bright yellow orb of thick paint with a thinner wash of darker colour over the top. The cloud formation is represented by blocks of lemon colour. Everett sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932. The painting is inscribed 'PMH' verso.
