Seascape
A sketch showing the effects of waves breaking close to shore. The calm sea is shown with carefully modulated green tones and the waves are positioned diagonally across the painting. Everett has emphasized the shape of the crests of the waves as they break and in contrast the sky is shown as a flat wash of pale colour with no direct source of light. In this way Everett has created an evocation of calm and tranquillity. The sketch was probably done during one of Everett's visits to Cornwall, the Channel Islands or France.
