Martin (1850)

Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, headrails, trail-board and figurehead for Martin (1850), a 16-gun Second Class brig. The plan for the figurehead relates to the ship’s conversion to a training brig at Plymouth Dockyard between February and October 1864.

A three-quarter length bust of a female facing forward wearing a dress with pleated skirts from the waist down. She is wearing a curved diadem on her hair, which is tied at the nape of her neck. The top of the trail-board has carving of a martin in flight, just below the scrollwork at the base of the bust.

Signed by James P. Peake [Master Shipwright, Devonport Dockyard, 1859-].
