Meteor (1823)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, headrail, head and proposed figurehead for Meteor (1823), a 12-gun, two mortar Bomb Vessel. Having been built at Pembroke Dockyard the ship was completed at Plymouth in July 1823 for Ordinary.
The figurehead is unusual, as it is flames coming from a fire-breathing serpent that has been carved out of the lower cheek on the trail-board, which is usually a stylised scroll.
Signed by Thomas Roberts [Master Shipwright, Pembroke Dockyard, 1815-1830]. The cost of £4 for the figurehead indicates that this design was approved. The bottom of the sheet has been torn leaving the writing mostly illegible.
