Captain (1787)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the starboard bow, headrail and figurehead for Captain (1787), a 74-gun Third Rate, two-decker. The ship had defects made good at Plymouth Dockyard between November 1797 and May 1798.
The figurehead is colour washed and depicts a shield with a pre-1801 Union flag in the centre with a plumed helmet above. Behind the shield are the symbols of victory, including spears, a trident, the muzzle of a cannon and two standards. Laurel branches are interwoven in the design.
Signed by John Marshall [Master Shipwright, Plymouth Dockyard, 1795-1801] and approved by William Rule [Surveyor of the Navy, 1793-1813].
