Racehorse (1830)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, headrails, trail-board and figurehead for Racehorse (1830), an 18-gun ship sloop. The plan for the figurehead relates to the ship’s refit and recommissioning at Plymouth Dockyard in 1853 for the East Indies and China.
A half-length bust of a male representing a jockey, facing forward. He is wearing a jockey’s cap with its peak or visor. The jacket has a wide lapel that turns into a high collar. A wide cravat or necktie is around his neck. On the trail-board just below the scroll carving is a jockey’s riding crop. This is a very similar design to the replacement proposed for Racer (1833).
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S5621.
