Triton (no date)
Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the bow, headrail, head and proposed figurehead for Triton (no date), possibly a merchant ship of 160 tons burden. There is no evidence of a Triton of 160 tons having served in the Royal Navy and those of 1773 and 1796 were too large. While 1773 frigate had a triton figurehead similar to this design (see ZAZ3235), Triton of 1796 had a billethead instead of a carved figurehead (see ZAZ3076).
The figurehead is a full-length figurehead of a merman facing forward and blowing on a shell, held in his right hand. His coiled tail curls down the trail-board, on which are also fish swimming in waves. The plan has been annotated with measurements. The cathead end has a stylised star carved on it.
