A figurehead of a warrior from an unknown warship, possibly a Third Rate.
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the head, head-rails and trail-board and figurehead for an unknown warship, probably a Third Rate. The lack of any date, signature and Admiralty Letter references indicates that this was not submitted for approval.
The figurehead is a full-length figure of a male warrior standing astride the head, facing forward. He is wearing a lavish plume on an ornate helmet, He is drawing a sword with his right hand. His armour is plain with over-exaggerated ‘pteruges’ (stiff leather straps) at the arms and legs, over trousers. He is also wearing sandals. In the trailboard is a young merman(?) holding a sword and scales, representing Justice, and another holding an orb, representing the sovereign’s power.
