Donegal (1858)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the starboard profile of the bow, headrails and figurehead of Donegal (1858), a 101-gun, Second Rate, two-decker screw ship.
The figurehead is a three-quarter length bust of a woman with a wreath of flowers and shamrocks in her hair, which is tied in a bun at the nape of her neck. A pencil annotation on the right states ‘Not Approved’. The top right is annotated ‘No. 2’ indicating that this was the second submitted proposal for a new figurehead.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport Dockyard, 1843-1859] The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S3081.
