Ferret (1840)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, headrails, trail-board and figurehead for Ferret (1840), a 6-gun brig-rigged packet. The date for this figurehead proposal coincides with Ferret’s Middling Repair and fitting at Plymouth between July 1850 and July 1852.
A half-bust figurehead of a male wearing a smock and knotted necktie. He has a short-rimmed hat on his head. A ferret is depicted on the trail-board below the scroll decoration at the base of the bust.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S8312. The plan is watermarked 1847.
