Narcissus (cancelled 1857)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, headrails, trail-board and figurehead for Narcissus (cancelled 1857). This is the figurehead design for the original 50-gun sailing frigate ordered in 1847 but cancelled and the name transferred to the modified screw frigate design. See DIC0088 for an undated and signed sketch.
A half-bust of a naked male with short hair looking forward from the bow of the ship. The bust is surrounded by foliage, reflecting the scene where Narcissus spotted his reflection in a pool and became transfixed.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S7049.
