Leopard (1850)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the head, headrails, trail-board and figurehead for Leopard (1850), an 18-gun Second Class paddle frigate. This replacement figurehead was added to the ship when it was recommissioned in April 1857, having spent six months at Plymouth in the Steam Reserve.
The half-bust figurehead is similar to the original carved in 1847, and shows a bearded warrior wearing a turban helmet and a cloak flowing down his back to the scrollwork at the top of the blank trail-board. The annotation indicates that this plan was approved.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S968.
