Euryalus (1853)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, headrail, head and proposed figurehead for Euryalus (1853), a 51 (later 35) gun Fourth Rate, wooden screw frigate.
The figurehead is a three-quarter length bust of a bearded warrior facing forward, representing the Trojan warrior Euryalus. He is wearing a large plumed helmet and a square-necked scale chainmail shirt. The Museum has a model of the Euryalus with a similar figurehead carving – see SLR0100.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S53-55.
