Buzzard (1849)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, trail-board and figurehead for Buzzard (1849), a 6-gun Second Class paddle sloop. The plan relates to the ship after being paid off in April 1861 and before her recommissioning in January 1863.
The figurehead is a three-quarter length bust of a female looking forward wearing a flowing Classical Greek pleated dress with a broach on the right shoulder to gather the cloth together to create the sleeve. She has her hair in a bun at the nape of her neck and a diadem in her hair. A buzzard in flight is on the upper part of the trail-board. The plan includes the name W. J. Bone [either the draughtsman or examiner].
Signed by James P. Peake [Master Shipwright, Devonport Dockyard, 1859-]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number DM2570.
