Topaze (1858)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, trail-board and figurehead for Topaze (1858), a 51 (later 39, then 31) gun Fourth Rate, wooden screw frigate.
A three-quarter length figurehead of a female facing forward wearing a diadem on her head. Her hair is pulled back and tied at the nape of her neck. Her low-cut top is nipped in at the waist and is loosely pleated from the waist. A longer dress is fitted under this top, terminating at the scroll carving.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S13057. This figurehead was approved.
