Boadicea (1797); Lavinia (1806)

Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the carved work on the cover under two taffrails for Boadicea (1797), a 38-gun Fifth Rate frigate, and Lavinia (1806), a 44-gun fifth Rate frigate. Both ships underwent Middling to Large Repairs at Plymouth Dockyard between February 1815 and August/September 1816. This sketch may relate to this work on the two ships.

The top taffrail has a central motif of a crown above an oval shield. In front is a bow and a long spear is behind. The rest of the carving work on both sides consists of curving lines of foliage and leaves. The pencil annotation next to it records 'Boadicea'.

The bottom taffrail has a central motif of a sickle behind which are ears of wheat on their storks and a six-pronged rake. The caving work on the port side of the taffrail consists of curved lines of flowers and leaves with ribbons at the peaks, and an urn in the gap between the screen bulkhead windows and gallery window. The pencil annotation next to it records 'Lavinia'.
