Perseus (1861)
Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the starboard quarter gallery, and bow, trail-board, headrail, head and figurehead for Perseus (1861), a 17-gun Second Class sloop (later re-classed a corvette).
The figurehead is a three-quarter length bust of a Greek warrior facing forwards, representing Perseus. He is wearing scale armour down to the pleated drape at his waist. His helmet includes a fixed forward curve where the plume would be and a visor. The plan includes the scale measurements to assist the carver with scaling. The quarter galleries have not had any embellishment ‘drops’ added.
Signed by Henry Cradock [Master Shipwright, Pembroke Dockyard, 1859-1864]. The plan includes Admiralty Letter Book number S2629.
