Cordelia (1856)
Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the half stern board, starboard quarter gallery, bow, headrail, head and proposed figurehead for Cordelia (1856), an 11-gun wooden screw sloop.
The figurehead is a three-quarter length bust of a female facing forward, representing Shakespeare’s tragic character from King Lear. Her hair is tightly looped around the ears, and she is wearing a bodice with pleated skirt.
The stern board and quarter galleries have no decoration details within the window drops.
Signed by Oliver Lang [Master Shipwright, Pembroke Dockyard, 1853-1859]. The plan includes Admiralty Letter Book numbers S5479-55 / 5591.
