A slightly distant starboard bow view of the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) at anchor in Sognefjord off Balholm, Norway. She has her port anchor deployed and an accommodation ladder is rigged to her main deck aft with two boats alongside it. A large number of crew and passengers are lining the rails of the forecastle and the superstructure. In the foreground one of her manual lifeboats is heading towards the ship at the end of a race. It is manned by passengers under the supervision of two crew members. The passengers have got their oars reasonably in unison. Competitive rowing regattas were commonplace in cruise ships at boating ports and other sheltered moorings. Negatives numbers P84445 to P84462 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
