Four manual lifeboats alongside the accommodation ladder at the aft port side of the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) which is at anchor in Sognefjord off Balholm, Norway. The ladder is rigged to the main deck. The lifeboats, numbered 3, 5, 4 and 6, are moored abreast and are manned by passengers under the supervision of two crew members in each boat. The photographer is in one of the ship's motor lifeboats looking at the bows of the boats and the port quarter of the ship. Competitive rowing regattas were commonplace in cruise ships at boating ports and other sheltered moorings. Negatives numbers P84445 to P84462 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
