A manual lifeboat from the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) racing in Sognefjord off Balholm, Norway.

A starboard side view, taken from abaft the beam, of a manual lifeboat from the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) during a race in Sognefjord off Balholm, Norway. It is manned by passengers under the supervision of two crew members and they are rowing in unison at the head of the field. The photographer is on board a motor lifeboat which is following the race as a safety boat. The Orion is at anchor out of shot. Competitive rowing regattas were commonplace in cruise ships at boating ports and other sheltered moorings. Negatives numbers P84445 to P84462 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
