A starboard side view of three manual lifeboats from the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) racing in Sognefjord off Balholm, Norway. They are manned by passengers each under the supervision of two crew members. They are not rowing in unison. The photographer is on board a motor lifeboat which towed the competitors to the start and is following the race as a safety boat. The Orion is at anchor out of shot. Competitive rowing regattas were commonplace in cruise ships at boating ports and other sheltered moorings. Negatives numbers P84445 to P84462 inclusive were taken on the same occasion.
