Lifeboats close to the starboard side of the Orient Line cruise ship Orontes (1929) at anchor in Sognefjord at Balholm, Norway. The photographer is in a boat off the starboard side amidships of the Orontes (1929). He is looking aft at three of the ship's lifeboats which are manned mainly by passengers with each boat being under the supervision of tow of the ship's crew. The nearest boat is Number 10 and they are all of carvel construction. The starboard side of the hull of the ship from amidships to the stern is in the picture and she has an accommodation ladder rigged to her main deck aft. The negative is captioned "Finish of boat race Balholm". Some of the houses of Balholm can be seen in the background and there are patches of snow on the mountains in the distance.
