A single Cree quilled moccasin
A single Cree or Cree-Metis made moose skin moccasin. The moccasin has red and blue floral quill work embroidery on the vamp, which has been edged with bird quill. The short cuffs have been sewn onto the moccasin and edged with blue and red stitching. Note that this is the pair to AAA2628.
This one of a number of Cree/Cree-Metis objects brought back by Admiral Sir George Back (1796-1878) from Canada during one of the three overland expeditions that he participated in or, in the case of the 1833-1835 expedition, led. However, we do not know from which the moccasin was acquired.
