Two seamen taking soundings from the chains on board the Orient Line cruise ship Orontes (1929) while off Vadheim in Vadheimsfjord. The photographer is looking forward over the starboard rail of the foredeck showing one of the seamen standing in the chains swinging the soundling lead line while his mate is leaning over the rail watching the line. Number 1 lifeboat is in its davits just ahead of the two men. The mountains in the background above the village are shrouded in low cloud.
