On board the Orient Line cruise ship Orontes (1929) in the River Test at Southampton, Hampshire. The photographer is on the aft end of the starboard side of the boat deck looking aft and slightly to port showing the starboard aft samson post and lifeboat 19 under her davits. awning rails are rigged over the poop. The Town Pier, with the Southampton Harbour Board terminal building on it, is on the right. The floating dock built in 1924 can be seen beyond the stern of the Orontes. The Western Docks are under construction in the background and two bucket chain dredgers are offshore.
