A close view of the port side aft accommodation ladder of the Orient Line cruise ship Orontes (1929) at anchor in an unknown location but probably in Norwegian waters. Two of the ship's manual lifeboats are alongside the ladder after a race. Each boat was manned by eight female and eight male passengers under the supervision of two seamen and the inboard boat is disembarking her passengers. The crew in the outboard boat have tossed their oars while waiting for their turn to disembark. The photographer is in a boat standing off and his negative shows a large number of passengers lining the ship's rails. Motor lifeboat number 18 is missing from her davits. A vertical format negative.
