A slightly distant port broadside view of the Orient Line cruise ship Orontes (1929) at anchor in Sognefjord, off Balholm, Norway. Both anchors are deployed and she has an accommodation ladder rigged aft. Lifeboats 8, 10, 18 and 20 have been launched and boats 8A and 10A have been swung out and lowered to boat deck level. She is flying the Blue Peter from the port yardarm on her foremast. the photographer is in onre of the ship's boats and she is towing lifeboat number 7 and another one in line astern towards the start line of a race. The boats are each manned by sixteen passengers under the supervision of two crew members and are proceeding with their oars tossed. There are patches of snow on the mountains in the background.
